This recipe for a McDonald’s copycat shamrock shake is a superb minty flavoured treat. A quick and easy milkshake recipe that can be whipped up in minutes.
Shamrock Shake

If you haven’t heard of the shamrock shake, let me tell you what it is. It’s a seasonal shake sold by Mcdonald’s in the US, Canada, and Ireland.

Unfortunately, they aren’t available in the UK, but who needs McDonald’s when I can just make my own? Everyone will go crazy for this thick, creamy, and addictive milkshake.

The thing that makes this milkshake different to others is its trademark green colour. My youngest son’s favourite colour is green so when I first made this milkshake, I knew he would love it.

The green colour matches its minty flavour, but the actual colour is achieved through food colouring. Depending on whether you use gel or water-based food colouring the exact amount will differ.

The gel is more concentrated so you will end up using less. However, water-based food colouring is just as good. Just add a drop at a time until you reach the colour you want.

Originally the milkshake’s flavour used to be lemon and lime. However, over the years the recipe was developed, and the new shamrock shake now has a minty flavour.

If you’re a vegan, don’t worry! The milk can easily be replaced with cashew milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. The best of which is definitely the coconut milk because it will give you the creamiest texture, similar to one made with non-vegan milk.

I usually make my own homemade whipped cream with double cream and icing sugar. But you can keep it simple with store-bought. Just add a generous amount to the top of each milkshake and you are ready to serve!

If you are struggling to decide between a dessert and a drink, then this milkshake recipe is perfect. Unbelievably easy to make at home, these minty milkshakes are a fun way to celebrate with the kids.
