A delicious chicken karahi recipe made with no onions but loaded with tomatoey goodness. The chicken is fried in oil then the tomatoes are cooked until the skin can be removed before being broken down to form a rich and luscious tomato masala.
Packed with tons of flavour, this charsi chicken karahi recipe is just too good to be true. Different to other chicken curry recipes this chicken curry recipe is made with simple ingredients yet is extremely hard to beat in taste.
Serve with homemade naan bread for a delicious dinner.
Karahis are a popular curry all over Pakistan and India gaining increasing popularity in restaurants all over the globe. Nothing gives Indian flavours quite as karahis do. I love my karahis whether it’s a lamb karahi or chicken karahi.
Charsi chicken karahi is quite different to a lot of chicken curry recipes. There aren’t as many spices added in an authentic charsi chicken karahi recipe.
If you have a look at my classic chicken jalfrezi or my authentic butter chicken or even my British chicken tikka masala recipe, you will see that all these curry recipes have lots of different spices added.
Each chicken curry recipe is special in its own regard, but this recipe is particularly unique due to its simple use of salt and black pepper. The black pepper adds an earthy flavour to this chicken karahi recipe, and it tastes delicious. Not to mention it is so simple to make!
Another significant difference is that this recipe uses no onions. The main ingredient in the masala is the tomatoes and they add a distinct sweetness that you won’t get in other recipes.
I chop the tomatoes in half and then place them face down on the chicken before covering and cooking for a few minutes. This makes it easier to pull the skins of the tomatoes, so you end up with a smoother and thicker tomato masala.
