This blueberry smoothie is loaded with nutrients and looks just as good as it tastes. Creamy, refreshing, and an excellent way to begin the morning.
I’m one of those people that ALWAYS finds a way to skip breakfast. But this recipe tastes so good that it is something that I always look forward to drinking.
It takes next to no time to make, and it tastes so delicious. An absolute must-try for those who just don’t know what to have for breakfast.
I have several milkshake recipes on here already such as my Oreo milkshake and my Shamrock shake recipe, but this is my first smoothie recipe.
If you don’t know the difference between milkshakes and smoothies, then it is very simple. Milkshakes tend to have more of a dairy base with milk and ice cream, whereas smoothies tend to have more fruit and very rarely contain any ice cream.
This recipe uses fresh blueberries to achieve both a fresh berry flavour and a beautiful purple colour.
Blueberries are abundant in the summer and provide an excellent immune-boosting boost. They have a distinct blue colour due to the presence of a compound known as anthocyanin.
Anthocyanin is an antioxidant that has been linked to a lower risk of cancer. Not only is it great for cancer, but it can also aid in the fight against obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, and boost general health.
Blueberries also contain a variety of vitamins and minerals. These vitamins and minerals benefit skin health as well as bone health.
I’ve also added bananas to this smoothie recipe to help provide an additional health kick. Bananas are rich in many different nutrients and provide an array of benefits for the body.
They are great for digestive health and can help support weight loss. Just like many other fruits, they are full of antioxidants, making them a great way to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
Remember that the riper the banana the sweeter it is. So, if you want a sweeter smoothie use a ripe banana.
This recipe is one of those that don’t keep well for prolonged periods of time, so it is best to drink it when and as made. As this smoothie is literally made in 5 minutes then this isn’t much of an issue.
I like to freeze the glasses that I am going to pour the smoothies in for 10 minutes or so. This helps to prevent the ice from melting and keep the frosty thickness of the smoothies.
I like to use honey in my smoothies. So, if you want to make this vegan then add some golden syrup instead. It is a great alternative and tastes just as great.
This healthy blueberry smoothie is an excellent breakfast option. It is filling and delicious, made with banana, almond milk, and a dash of honey.
