Ingredients

  • 200 g Black Gram Lentils Urad Dal
  • 1 L Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1, Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 inch Ginger grated
  • 2 Green Chillies chopped
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
  • Coriander for garnish

Instructions

  • Rinse the urad dal thoroughly under cold water.
  • In a large pot, add the washed urad daal and water. Bring to a boil.
  • Add salt and turmeric, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the daal is soft and fully cooked.
  • In a separate pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  • Add onions, garlic, ginger, and green chillies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes and cook until they are soft and pulpy.
  • Pour this mixture into the cooked urad daal and stir well.
  • Add garam masala and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
