Ingredients

  • 250 g All-Purpose Flour
  • 50 g Caster Sugar
  • 7 g Yeast Instant
  • Salt
  • 120 ml Milk Whole, Lukewarm
  • 1 large Egg
  • 30 g Unsalted Butter Unsalted, Softened
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • Vegetable Oil For Frying
  • Sprinkles For Decoration

For The Glaze

  • 100 g Dark Chocolate Chopped
  • 30 g Butter Unsalted
  • 2 tbsp Icing Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk Whole
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, caster sugar, instant yeast, and a pinch of salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the lukewarm milk, egg, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough back in the mixing bowl, cover with a clean tea towel, and let it proof in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out donut shapes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 180°C (use a kitchen thermometer to monitor the temperature).
  • Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and puffed up.
  • Remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off excess oil.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter together until smooth.
  • You can do this in the microwave by heating in short bursts and stirring in between until fully melted. Alternatively, use a double boiler on the stovetop.
  • Once the chocolate and butter are melted, remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar, whole milk, and vanilla extract until the glaze is smooth and well combined.
  • If the glaze is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, you can add more powdered sugar.
  • Allow the chocolate glaze to cool slightly, but make sure it remains in a liquid state for dipping the donuts.
  • Dip each warm doughnut into the prepared chocolate glaze, coating one side or the top as desired. You can dip them halfway or fully, depending on your preference.
  • Place the glazed doughnuts on a wire rack or a parchment-lined tray to allow any excess glaze to drip off.
  • Sprinkle them generously with colourful sprinkles.
  • Serve your delicious sprinkle doughnuts immediately.
  • Don’t forget to leave a rating.
